Dec, 3, 2013

Today is Taylor's birthday, Happy Birthday from Opa and Omi.  Had no internet so could not call.
Drove from Izucar de Matamoros to Oaxaca almost all on the libre.  Passed though a lot of little villages and some beautiful countryside. We are now experts at detecting Topes. Every village has at least 6, so now we can guess where they are. Before looking for the RV Park we visited the ruins of Monte   Alban. From there we had a taxi guide us to the RV park. What chaos the traffic, and Norbert is becoming a real mexican driver.
We were surprised to discover we had a spot right beside Dave's camper. He is not here at the moment so we will surprise him. Had the camper washed in Tutla as it was very dirty, this is the first time that Norbert stood by and watched someone else wash his car  without interfering, wonders never cease. Looking forward to seeing Jan, Dave and Victor tomorrow.
Hugs to all.

Traveled from Queretano to Chulula.
It is nice to start traveling sunday morning as there is little traffic.  We wanted to take the Ruta Alta around Mexico City but Fiona " ourGPS" send us in the wrong direction so we ended up in the busy Mexico City traffic, to top it off lots of quotas "toll".
We did have clear sky's and could see both volcanoes very well. We were at an altitude of 11,500 feet. Went to visit the pyramids and as it is sunday there was fiesta in town.
We were the only ones in the campground, no showers, dirty toilets, no internet and no water hookup and they wanted to charge 250 pesos, we paid 200 pesos but did not stay two nights as planned and drove to Puebla in the morning.  Visited the cultural center and the plaza was decorated for christmas. We did not stay in Puebla but at night the lights must be wonderful.
Left Puebla and drove to the volcano  Popocatepetl, over a dirt road to an altitude of over 12,000 feet, the camper and we got a good shaking.spent the night in Izucar de Matamoros at a new Pemex, with showers and all.

Drove from Guanajato and arrived in Queretano just after lunch parked at the Flamingo hotel took a taxi to see the ruins at El Pueblito at Corregidrora. Surprise, they close at4:30. So took the taxi back to the historic center and visited the museum and Cathedral. There was a protest with music and dancing, very colorful and loud. There were full preparations to decorate the park forChristmas as tomorrow is the first advent.
Walked back to the Hotel in the dark, had to watch for traffic, big holes in the sidewalk, no sidewalk, cables across the sidewalk but we made it in one piece.
Queretano is well worth a visit.

Nov. 28

Arrived in Guanajato late afternoon. We missed the camping before the town so went trailer park Rayas. Well to get there is a nightmare trough tunnels and narrow and I mean narrow streets it is located right at the top of town, well the view is good and the nights  are cool. Today we visited Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel, and enjoyed both. Back at the camper there is a swiss couple also headed south. Tomorrow we will explore Guanajuato.
Hugs to all.

We spent a wonderful 6 days inn Lo de Marcos and as much as it is not enough, we must move on if we want to realize our dream. We had time to reconnect with our Lo de family, had Asado and Milanesa with Mabel and Alejandro, Norberts favourite vegetable soup with Ilsemarie and Guenter, and a very good lunch with Ginger and Doug.  Thank you  Isy for helping me with the painting and Jeanny who has whatever one could possibly need and is always willing to share. Also every day Happy Hour on the beach and hiked up to our lookout point on the hill.
Had some mechanical work done on the front wheels and I painted the Canadian flag on the front of the Van. We will miss all our friends here and wish them a happy winter in Mexico. From here we will drive to Guadalajara.

Hugs to all
