Delicias

Today Sunday the 17th.
Having a good time with Gildardo and Marta, had "gorditas" for lunch,  very good and tasty, and attracted some curiosity from other "diners" as I did not understand the ingredients and Marta had to explain them to me so we had to tell we are from Canada and answer questions about our trip.
Then drove out to their cabana on a very rough road. Passed a Pecan orchard where the farmers were picking the nuts. Got encircled by a herd of cows. Then ended up with a flat tire and Gildardo had no jack in the car, so had to borrow one and Norbert got on the ground and had it fixed in no time.
Tomorrow we will visit Chihuahua and leave for Lo de Marcos on tuesday.

Mexico

We left Palm Springs monday the 11-11-13 and made it to Organ pipe cactus national monument.
The next day we crossed the border in to Mexico. We were the only people there and were done in  15 minutes, Norbert made friends with the Aduana so that took some time. At Pitiquito we also were the only ones. There and done in no time. As you can see Norbert now feels handycapt.
That day we drove un til Hermosillas and spent the nite parked at the Pemex. It was very hot and did not cool off at nite. Did see one single Motorhome heading south. Traveled hyghway 16 towards Chihuahua, what a beautiful route that is, very windy but the scenery is well worth it. Then on to Copper Canyon, we wanted to see it many times but never took the time so now our curiosity is satisfied. It was interesting to chat with the artisans, the Indigenous girls do have a hard life but seem very happy. It rained while we were there so we did not go down. We spent the nite parked at the Mirador. Today we drove to Delicias. En route we were behind a logging truck and the logs were only  secured by a chain. As we had a steep incline ahead of us I was happy Norbert could pass him before that.
Gildardo and Matha met us at Walmat and guided us to their home. After taking a wonderful shower we went out for dinner, and now have WiFi and can read our mail and connect with friends.

Arrive in Palm Springs

Arrived in Palm Springs Nov. 2nd. At 2:0 pm. Traffic was O.K. The only busy section was the Hwy. 210 but then that is always hairy. Gasoline prices varied from $ 3.09 in Oregon to $ 3.65 in California.  Saw a beautiful sunrise this morning, and a double wide mobile home being towed, only in America.
Now we are settled in our Palm Springs casa for a few days as Otto and Gudrun from Germany is visiting here on Nov. 5th. for a few days and then we will head south to Delicias to visit Hildarda and Martita and then to Lo De. And further south.
We will blog again when we start moving. Thank you for your mail.

Day one of Adventure

We left North Vancouver today at 7:30am. and it was raining and heavy traffic. Border crossing was tops 5 minutes no questions asked and here I was all prepared to explain about the big salami we had in the fridge. Traffic in Seattle and Portland was bumper to bumper, but non of that could dampen our spirit as this day will set the tone of the journey. Stopped at Cabelas in Springfield and Norbert spluged on a new backpack, 80 liters capacity so he can carry some of my stuff as well. We are parked at Wal-Mart for a good nite rest.

Getting ready.

Well the date is coming closer for the departure. Norbert has been working hard to get the Van ready and now it is. Last Saturday we had a little party/get together with the hiking group. Today I finished the last of the paperwork and now I am packing the baby camper.
I have to be very selective of what we take as we will not bring the camper back, all personal items have to fit in my backpack. The Camino was good practice.
